Cooking

During March and November we can have bonfires at our Birmingham allotment, which we use to cook potatoes. After collecting firewood, we dig the potatoes up from our planting beds, wash them, prepare then with butter and salt, and wrap them in tin foil. After this we cook them for around an hour in a dutch oven. While we waited last year we talked, sang, played instruments, and watched the fire.

Jobs and life skills

At the allotment the children are expected, where able, to help with jobs that need doing such as plant and animal care, and maintenance such as painting. They can also develop skills in areas that interest them such as photography. Children in the group made a bug hotel using an electric screwdriver with adult support.
